| Drawing
on her rock, folk, and country music influences, Rachel Lee
Walsh creates songs that have been cited as beautiful and
moving, yet a little dark and haunting. With just her guitar
and a powerful voice, she casts out compelling songs about
her own life and the world around her.
Her
songs include a sordid cast of characters that seem to always
go through tough times, but manage to persevere and come out
hopeful on the other side.
After
years of playing guitar and singing in various bands in New
York City, Rachel stepped out into the front with her own
writing and performing as a singer-songwriter in 2001.
After
a few years of focusing on playing venues in NYC, she temporarily
moved her home base down South to concentrate on touring venues
in the region. In the summer of 2006, she returned to Brooklyn
because pangs of the big apple just wouldn't leave her alone.
Recent shows have included some Brooklyn stomping grounds
such as Pete's Candy Store and Superfine Brooklyn.
Recent
accomplishments include advancement to the second round of
judging in the 2006 International Songwriting Competition.
Rachel also now hosts a Singer/Songwriter Showcase Series
in Brooklyn called "Coffee, Tea, and Melody".
Currently
Rachel performs under the name Milkweed, her
three-piece band which includes upright bass, electric guitar,
and lap steel. 2004 saw the release of her self-produced and
recorded EP, Peasant Stock and Trash. She is currently working
on new material and searching creatively for funds for her
upcoming full-length recording and releases. |
