Recently, I played as the musical guest for a Great Small Works event. The audience that night was one of the best! They listened quietly to each song and even sang along as you can see in this video clip during my song “PLEASE COME TO BROOKLYN”. I’ve included some pictures from the evening as well. The pictures were taken by singer and songwriter Jan Bell, one of my absolute favorite musicians here in New York. I am joined on guitar by Dinshaw Gobhai.

Jan captured some of my stage performance as well as some interesting reflections that were showing up in one of the windows in the loft space.

The series includes a diverse line-up of singers, musicians, and bands from 12-3pm on Saturdays. The event takes place right under the arches of the Plaza, which is the round-a-bout at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue, Prospect Park West, and Empire Boulevard, directly across from the Brooklyn Public Library. Other musicians playing that day include Alan Friend and Hip Like Blank. In addition to the music series at Grand Army Plaza, the Brooklyn Public Library will be hosting a free outdoor concert on their steps as well, so it’s an afternoon of a lot of great music outdoors, which is a great way to enjoy the start of the fall season!

Gilli Moon, an Australian Singer/Songwriter and Honorary Indiegrrl Member, presented “Secrets to DIY Indie Marketing, Promotion, and Touring Success”, one of the many panels I attended, which was one of the most helpful sessions I attended. I also went to a songwriting workshop, let by Pat and Pete Luboff, called “Super Song Starters”, which addressed how to keep publishers from turning off your demo song within the first few seconds. Always a useful skill to know, to say the least! I even went to a couple of sessions on looking at your career from a holistic point of view. These type of sessions were just as helpful as the business focused panels, if not more.

This past couple of weeks, I began recording scratch tracks with Lee, who is working as my producer. We are recording what one might call the rhythm section of my music before we head into the actual studio for recording. This amounts to a rough of the guitar and rhythmic click track to use as a guide to record to. I also began working on some new video footage with my friend Jennifer for my song “Please Come To Brooklyn”. See pix below. There are for sure a few themes emerging in the process of making these recordings and video. Can you guess? Dogs, small and makeshift spaces, portable computers, and no sleep.
